2009 Finale Extravaganza

Here are two to four sentence summaries of all of my show's finale's, minus American Idol.

Gossip Girl
Chuck and Blair finally get together, but will inevitably break up episode one of next season. Otherwise, it was pretty uneventful. OH HEY MATT DOYLE (yum).

90210
This was such a great all around episode, by 90210 standards, and a great cliffhanger (hitandrunwhat). Liam was mighty fine, and Annie was tolerable! Huge bonus: no birthing scene.

The Office
Highlights: Jim was so happy when he found out that Pam was pregnant; Ryan on his phone during volleyball; Toby's HR friend; the spider in Jim's baseball glove; Dwight's stalling tactics; Slumdunder Mifflinaire; Michael being sweet with Holly. All around, it was a really great episode.

Parks and Recreation
Eh, I don't know about this show. I really only watch it to support Amy Poehler because I love her; I doubt that I'll watch next season. Nothing really stood out this episode.

How I Met Your Mother
OMGBARNEYANDROBINILOVEMYLIFE. So, maybe a long-term relationship with them is not explicitly stated or shown. Renee and I rewatched it and dissected every Barney/Robin interaction to be confident that they'll get together. I mean, did you not see the look they gave each other right before he took the both physical and metaphorical 'leap'? Furthermore, I like how everything actually did matter. Like, he had to date Stella and had to get the yellow umbrella in order to get set up with the teaching job by Tony. It is actually all connected.

Saturday Night Live
Not much to say since I hate Will Ferrell. It was a pretty good episode though, complete with Amy Poehler on Weekend Update (and 'Really? with Seth and Amy), Seth actually in a sketch (sort of), Tom Hanks being hilarious, and Paul Rudd (again, sort of). No digital short, though. And I missed the digital short episode.

Big Bang Theory
What a let down. I am so over Penny. She's not good enough for any of them. And the plotline has been done before. Chuck Lorre is getting lazy. Plus, there was NO cliffhanger.

That's all.

Peace, Gab

Evangeline Lilly vs. Cobie Smulders

This is a hard one (twss). Gab suggested it. I don't know who will win yet, I have to outline the pros and cons.

Evangeline pros:
- drop dead ridiculously gorgeous
- writes me letters
- comes from a fabulous place (BC)
- good at crying
- muscular
- can do 42 consecutive pushups
- has TWO foxy love interests
- likes writing
- climbs trees
- likes Sigur Ros

Cobie pros:
- drop dead ridiculously gorgeous
- comes from a fabulous place (BC)
- very funny
- good at comedic acting
- musical ability, kind of
- likes Flight of the Conchords
- likes the Princess Bride

Evangeline cons:
- doesn't have a tv
- enjoys "fitness"
- bad taste in men (hobbit)
- likes Madonna

Cobie cons:
- has only ONE foxy love interest
- bad taste in men (ugly)
- is bad at hiding being pregnant

I'm going to have to go with Elilly, because once again, I've been besties with her for five years now, whereas Cobie and I have only been besties since November or so (kind of like me and gab!)

Winner: NICOLE EVANGELINE LILLY

Renee Out.

Alex vs. Barney

THIS IS A TOUGH ONE. I love Friday night. Oh boy. Here we go.

Alex pros:
- sexy
- buff
- loyal
- good at being angry
- funny
- can throw together impromptu wedding vows
- good career (doctor)
- close in location (Washington)

Barney pros:
- sexy
- buff
- extremely funny
- musical ability
- magical ability

Alex cons:
- career that keeps him busy
- cranky
- has a history of STDs

Barney cons:
- not especially serious
- suspicious career (North Korean involvement?)
- womanizer
- pig
- not very romantic
- dyed hair

Winner: ALEXANDER MICHAEL KAREV

Don't hate me Gab.

I've loved Alex for five years and I've only loved Barney for one.

Gab's Number 1 TV Shows

It's a tie!

How I Met Your Mother
Obviously this would be my number one. I ship Barney and Robin so much that it hurts some times. I have seen every single episode at least 3 times, some more. And I can rank every single episode. The key is that I love every single main character, even Ted. And I care about them all.

Who's Line is it Anyways?
I essentially grew up on this show, and did obviously not get half the jokes. However, my love was renewed this year as I became addicted to reruns on Youtube. My favourite cast members are Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, and Greg Proops. The outtakes are even funnier than the actual show. My favourite games are Hoedown, Press Conference, and Scenes from a Hat.

How I Met Your Mother review

Great episode! I'm getting so stoked for the finale!

Best lines:

Barney: And call him I will.
Ted: He's going to say it again really slow.
Barney: And call....him...I....will.

Barney: Ted, Ted, go to youtube, look up Robin Scherbatsky Morning Show vomit...oh, hey Robin. Home so soon?

Barney: What now??? (yayyyy)

I always enjoyed the Simon and Garfunkel reference in the Cecilia chart.

Song Reccomendation Monday (A Day Late)

At least I did one though.

Find the hidden message in this passage: Daniel walked into the bright sunlight. He squinted slightly. "It sure is sunny," he noted to the grass conversationally. He decided that he would really enjoy GAB IS A HUGE SLACKER a nice cool glass of lemonade so he skipped inside to ask his mother if she would whip him up a glass.

So anyways. I was watching the finale of the OC a couple days ago and they played this song and I thought to himself, "Hmm, this song. It is good."

P.S. HIMYM was VERY good tonight. I'm guessing our resident slacker won't be reviewing since she has homework or whatever. SO SHE SAYS.

Television Compendium: Apr. 9-16

That's a catchy title. It almost rhymes, almost. I think it'll stick. Even so, we should poll the public! (Rachel?)

Parks and Recreation premiere

I had high hopes for this show and it did not disappoint. "Honestly, I pretty much broke my clavicle, so..." My other favourite part was when the poster was tacked up over the particularly gory part of the mural.

The Office two parter

Probably my favourite episodes of the season so far, or up there anyways. I love it when Michael's not being a total buffoon. (Maybe I need a hipper vocabulary) My favourite parts were all the Pam fighting with Ryan parts and the line "I have to go Mom, P's being a huge B."

Lost

Ehhh, I watch Lost on fastforward now, I don't even like it basically, though I can't seem to give it up. I just want to know what the hell is going on. I thought it was pretty good last night. At least there was no excruciating Sawyer/Juliet mushiness (this is me, throwing up my pancreas). I do think Miles is a really interesting character, so I was glad he got his own episode, and I was VERY glad when *spoiler alert* Daniel Faraday came back at the end. Love him! Still. Lost is being shunned.

HIMYM

Not so funny this week. Hasn't been so funny for a while. Too much shtick, not enough witty dialogue. Too much real pregnancies, not enough Robin and Barney making fake babies. Also, the way they got Lily to leave the show? LAZY.

American Idol

Finally! A good show to talk about. I just need to make two shoutouts to my boyfriend Adam and my bestfriend Allison. Well done, pals! They were the best by far. I pretty much watched everybody else on fast forward. It's getting hard by this point, as it always does, because I'm so attached to all of them. Even Anoop is growing on me. That's why, even though I thought Matt deserved to go home, I was really happy that he got saved because then he was so happy and the rest of them were all so happy. I love it when they're happy!

We just know that if someone good gets voted off next week Simon will be a tool and say "We misused our save." That's probably why he did it, just so he can say that. PS I hate Kara.

Southland

I like it! But maybe that's just because I'm in love with Benjamin McKenzie. It will take a few more episodes to figure out if I like the actual show or just Ryan Atwood reincarnated.

Bones

Best show ever, why do more people not watch it? I guess probably because the dialogue is pure crap and there are only two interesting characters (okay, maybe not the best show EVER). But last night was really good. I like the ones where Brennan doesn't make  fool out of herself (eg. the circus, her solo interrogation, etc. etc. ETC.) I liked the dynamic between them last night, it's been missing for a while. I have high hopes for the finale! cough*sex*cough. Maybe if I had my own life I wouldn't have to live vicariously through fictional romances. Whatever...it's healthy, probably not.

House

Chase and Cameron got engaged. Whatever.

HIMYM Review: "Murtaugh"

I've decided that the best way to review this episode is by character plot line. Be warned, there will be sub-plot line character headings as well. All-in-all, this was the best episode since The Possimpible, but definitely not up to par with many of the others earlier in this season. Is it just me, or was the start of the season AMAZING, and then went downhill? I'm glad that they didn't overuse the flashbacks this episode, like they have been doing a lot lately.

Barney/Ted/Robin
So Barney, after being kicked out of his Laser Tag Club for breaking rules is told by Ted that he is too old for Laser Tag. It is then added to the "Murtaugh List" of stuff that they are too old to do. Barney takes it upon himself to do all the items on the list within 24 hours. Ted is then challenged to do the items on the list Barney makes of things that he is too young to do. There is a bet somewhere in here.
Ted
Ted was actually hilarious this episode. More so than in a very long time. Renee said, and I agree, that he is funny when he isn't taking everything too seriously. Funniest Moment: When he goes to answer the phone REALLY slowly.
Barney
Barney was pretty funny tonight, but it felt almost a little forced sometimes. (Sorry NPH! I have to be critical. But if you ever read this, you were actually amazing, as per use.) I was very glad to see that he still plays laser tag, since that hasn't been mentioned since, like, season 1. I did like his earring, but his hair and clothes were no good. Favourite moment: Just a short clip. When he was in laser and had his foot on the kid while shooting her. I also loved the High Score Board that had Stinson listed for every single high score, ever.
Robin
Robin didn't really have a big part in this episode. She was just there with Barney the whole time (yay!). I like to see them spending time together. But I wish that they mentioned that Barney is in love with her sometimes. Just casually, you know? I am also, sorry to say, sick of the Canadian jokes. Mainly because the writers are overusing them and they are always the same ones. I want original ones! "Something about fur trapping." Favourite moment: Her rave outfit. Sort of reminded me of Robin Sparkles. And the blinky light in her mouth was awesome.
Barney/Robin
This deserves its own heading. As previously mentioned, no references to their relationship, but it was nice to see them together the entire episode. Favourite moment: Their answering machine message. They are so cute together!

Lily/Marshall
These two didn't even interact with the other characters this episode, which was sort of weird. Basically, Marshall takes over as the new basketball coach for Lily's kindergarten class at Lily's request, because she wants to observe him with children and give him practice for the future. Anyways, he's super hard on the kids and angry Marshall is HILARIOUS. Favourite moment: How the story changes with time and the competing team are all adults. I also love the creative ways of hiding Alyson Hannigan's belly: a guitar, orange slices, basketballs, a giant scarf.

Wow, what a long and impressive post I just wrote!
Peace, Gab

PS: My prediction for Barney's Blog update this week: The Murtaugh List, and, potentially, the Too Young List (did this one have a name?)

Gab needs to get over it!

FOR THE LAST TIME, HE IS NOT HOT. I'm sorry. He's funny and talented and everything, but not hot. He actually looks a little bit like a corpse.

Now, if you want to transfer your affections to someone deserving, I have a few suggestions. Adam Lambert, John Krasinski, Adam Lambert, David Cook, Adam Lambert...any one of these men I would be more than willing to share with my bestie.

I'm so excited about when you come home! (and p.s. I was creeping your facebook wall, and none of your other friends even know when you get back, they're all like, "When do you come home?" Nerds!)

I saw Great Big Sea in concert. They were so good!

Grey's Anatomy was awesome! Owen is hot!

It's kind of late.

I'm going to see I Love You Man tomorrow. I can't wait until the HIMYM finale!!!

Robin: If he's missing some teeth, I'm missing my pants (favourite line right now)

I miss you!

ARGHH, I can't think of anything funny

This post has a few things to discuss.

1. I am totally depressed about it being reruns tonight. I just had to watch the Possimpible episode again, which is amazing, but not the same as a fresh, new episode that I haven't memorized.

2. I dislike Two and a Half Men. I used to love it and watch it religiously, but then it just got old.

3. I don't know what you are talking about, Renee, when you say "Gabriel guy"?

4. That love website freaked me out. Why are all of the people creepy/pedophiles?

And I found this, which makes me laugh, but might not normally if I wasn't in such an emotional state.
Peace, Gab

My Response: Eww, gross

But I'm in a bad mood because HIMYM is a rerun and frickin' Two and a Half Men is on in the background. My family loves that show but I refuse to concede. Charlie Sheen should NOT be the highest paid actor on television. That Gabriel guy is...meh...whatever.

Renee's TV Roundup: Feb 7, '09

I'm not going to review How I Met Your Mother because Gab already nailed that one.

The Office

Super Bowl Sunday blessed us with two episodes this week! They were both HILARIOUS - by far two of the best episodes this season. My favourite part from the superbowl episode was Angela throwing her cat in the ceiling and the following dialogue:

Michael: What kind of ice cream do you want?
Stanley: Chocolate.
Michael: Racism is dead, Stanley!

From the second episode, Lecture Circuit, my favourite part was Dwight decorating the board room for Kelly's party. He bought grey and brown balloons to "match the carpet" and he only blew them up like a quarter of the way. My favourite dialogue was:

Michael: Karen, do you need to go pump?
Karen: No Michael, I won't need to do that until after I have the baby.

Bones

Booth was kidnapped and it was sexy. Then he was rescued and it got boring. I totally called that *spoiler alert* that lady was bad right from the beginning because she emerged all sketchily from the shadows. I am awesome. So is Booth.

Grey's Anatomy

I want more George! He's getting totally shafted. I'm not looking forward to the crossover because Private Practice is like a hugely boring show. This week my favourite parts were the Hunt and Cristina parts. I loved the music that would play every time they saw one another. They're the most intriguing part of the show right now. Also, I totally called that Arizona was gay. GOD I'm good at calling things, aren't I?

Lost

I love Sawyer! He is so fine. I'm starting to notice that all of my favourite shows...contain some really fine looking guy. Whatever, I'm still a very deep person. Lost was okay I guess. I liked Sawyer seeing Kate in the jungle and I liked the parts with the people left on the island. That's how the whole season has been going for me; i love the on island stuff and I find the oceanic 6 parts really boring.

American Idol

I'm pretty sure I've made my thoughts pretty clear thusfar.

Wow, this is the longest, most extensive post ever. I'm pretty sure I'm about a thousand points ahead of Gab now.

I Want Dwight to Plan All My Parties

This is the best thing I've ever seen EVER EVER EVER. Once he's enormously famous, he'll see this blog (as it, too, will be enormously famous) and he'll read all the old entries from before he was enormously famous and he'll say "Wow, this girl is a really big fan, and she sounds hot" and then we'll get married.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLlOFxzk-2A&feature=related

Sorry that I STILL don't know how to embed (embed? is that the word I'm looking for?) videos, Gab. But at least I post on our blog. You've abandoned it like a baby in a dumpster which is just uncool, man. Our fans must be crushed.

Also, it's really funny, because almost all the comments are people theorizing about whether or not he's gay. I don't really care if he is. I think Gab and I have proven we have no problem falling in love with famous gay guys, eh? However, a few of the comments mention that he looks like Joe Jonas. Those people are dead to me.

Tube Tuesday! First Ever Installment

How exciting!
Why not celebrate with some NPH?

In the previous post, I mention that my favorite HIMYM moment is when Barney learns how to drive? Well, here it is. Enjoy!

Peace, Gab

Gab's Top 10 HIMYM Moments

Proof of how awesome Neil Patrick Harris is: almost all of my favorite moments are with Barney.

Honourable mention: When Barney is sick. "OUCHY IN MY MOUTH!"

10. Lily's dancing. Especially when she needs to be inconspicuous like in "The Bracket."

9. Barney being stuck on the subway. "My legs don't work. I have ridden the subway twice from end to end. I've been where it turns around. Ted, you don't ever want to see where it turns around."

8. Ted and Barney's naked man poses. Including: Superman, Captain Morgan, Oops! I Didn't See You There, The Thinker, The Heisman, The Burt Reynolds, Coppertone Baby and Olympic Gynmast Who Stuck The Landing and my favorite, Mr. Clean.

7. Barney's confession of his love for Robin to Lily. The cutest Barney moment of the series, so far.

6. Lily's loud chewing. Especially when eating cotton candy, thus earning the name "Chewbacca."

5. Barney's gambling in Atlantic City. The most complicated game ever. But Marshall understands it.

4. Barney's play entitled "Suck It Lily." Nothing can describe the beauty of this play, except, maybe, the word 'moist.'

3. Barney on TPIR. "Hi Da—Bob!"

2. Lily moves in with Barney. And the tour of Barney's house: two 300 inch flat screens, Storm Trooper, professionally lit porn shelf, spring-loaded toilet seat.

1. Barney learning how to drive. I can't even describe the beauty/awesomeness/hilarity. Neil Patrick Harris' acting is a thing of shear beauty.

That was fun to make. My original list had 34 moments on it, and it was very difficult to narrow them down. I just love everything.

Peace, Gab

Renee's Top 10 HIMYM Moments

Keeping in mind that she hasn't seen all the episodes and isn't as good a fan as Gabriela.

10. The sensory deprivators. "HELLO! I'M HERE TO PICK UP MY WINGS"

9. Drunk Robin. "I'd take you with gravy if my boyfriend wasn't sitting right here."

8. The other time Robin was drunk. Being all super-Canadian. "Stanley Cup. Game Six, eh?" Words were used such as "hoser" "aboot" and "Tim Hortons maple log." It was beautiful.

7. Barney calling Robin. Funny high pitched noises are always winners with me.

6. Lily hunchbackedly stalking the girl from the coffee place. "Hey you. Turn around."

5. Ted singing along to "Voices" by Cheap Trick. Drunkenness at it's finest. "I drank all five, bitch!"

4. The collection of interventions. Ted mispronouncing "encyclopedia" and "renaissance". Lily's accent, Robin's spray tan, Barney's magic. Anything involving magic automatically gets an honourable mention.

3. Robin and Barney making out during Sandcastles and the Sand. Enough said, I think.

2. Let's Go to the Mall by Robin Sparkles. The most equisitely hilarious music video in the entire world. The robot. The special effects. The Canada references. They're all good.

1. Barney's Play. Craftmanship of epic proportions. Excellent usage of squirt guns, fabulous robot costumes and the word "moist." I'll never look at a toaster oven the same way again. Bravo, NPH, bravo.

Your turn, Gab.

HIMYM Review: "Barney Stinson, That Guy's Awesome"

Tonight was the much awaited "Barney Stinson: That Guy's Awesome" episode of How I Met Your Mother. Was it everything I could have hoped for? Almost. But I'll get to that.

So the premise of the episode is this: Robin, now unemployed, finds out she is being deported back to Canada in 7 days and must find a job in her field in NY in order to stay. Barney, who made his own video resume offers to make her one, thus setting up a "BarBin episode." This is, however, where I was left disappointed and wanting more. There was not really any dialogue about Barney's being in love with Robin, only awesome acting by Neil Patrick Harris (like when Robin considers marrying an American, and that hug!).

The highlight of the episode was, obviously, Barney's video resume. It features Neil Patrick Harris speaking in a British, Scottish, and something accent, an amazing song by Neil consisting mainly of the word 'awesome,' and some hilariously bad green screen footage. But, my favorite part of the video was not, in fact, the song, but Barney's glasses. If you go to barneysvideoresume.com, you can enjoy it once more, with a few more clips, including Neil in the recording studio.

I also loved the funny-and-not-appropriate-things-on-your-resume subplot. You know we all have them. I also love the magic of being able to pause television. It is well worth pausing on Marshall's resume when he is deleting the slam dunk entry. Read about his being an amazing summer camper when he was a kid.

I also liked the Dr. X subplot with Ted. You can check out the website here. It's not as cool as Barney's, but still pretty awesome. I particularly like the Ivy League audio clip.

The makeup and costume department are having an increasingly more difficult time hiding Alyson Hannigan's giant baby bump. I quite liked their showing it off (albeit, as a full stomach after eating 33 hotdogs in 8 minutes) instead of hiding it. Although, she was wearing some pretty baggy shirts today.

So, all in all, it was a really hilarious episode. I must say, season four is definitely my favorite (or at least tied with season 2).

I'm off to watch some Doogie Howser and do the possimpible.

Peace, Gab

PS: Barney's Blog hasn't been updated yet. I look forward to whatever the update is this week.
